Some SRC aspirants and students of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) have kicked against the appointment of an Interim Management Committee whose mandate is to steer the affairs of the Council until substantial executives are elected.
The Committee will ensure that elections are held within two months of resumption of on-campus academic work, a statement signed by the Dean of Students, Mr. Mawuli Feglo has said.
This, however, did not sit well with some aspirants who are charging the Institution’s management for failing to engage them and other relevant stakeholders in the lead-up to the decision.
One of the aggrieved aspirants, Reginald Boateng has expressed shock over the sheer neglect of SRC stakeholders.
“To our surprise, what happened is that we were not notified, there was no formal communication to us, there was nothing, we were not regarded in the decision making,” he lamented.
Speaking on Campus Exclusive Thursday, July 30, 2020, he added that “after the pronouncement was made, I tried calling some members of the executives to find their stance on such a decision and how it affects the entire SRC, and to my surprise, all the executive members that I called have no knowledge about the appointment of an interim management committee.”
Mr. Reginald Boateng is therefore urging management of the School to properly engage the right outfits in its quest to make such decisions which directly affect the well-being of the student body.
Though he admits the institution of the Committee is prudent, “proper stakeholder negotiations with the aspirants, executive committee members and the general assembly” should not be overlooked.
The Dean of Students of the University of Professional Studies, Accra, on July 27, 2020 appointed a five-member Interim Management Committee of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of the Institution.
The rationale behind the appointment of Nartey Prince Wade as the Chairman of the Committee is “based on the understanding that he has been a class representative for some time.”
Other members of the Committee include Miss Asantewaa Patience, Deputy Chairman, Ampofo Clifthen, Financial Secretary, Mr Akpatsu Seth, Auditor, and Miss Asante Gifty, Secretary.
Their appointment takes immediate effect.
