The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture is working on the establishment of a specialized court to deal with issues of the Creative Arts industry.
A statement signed by the Minister ofTourism, Arts and Culture, Hon. Barbara Oteng Gyasi on Thursday, July 30, 2020 highlighted that “the Honorable Chief Justice has approved the establishment of a specialized court, as a division of the High Court to deal with copyright and other related matters pertaining to the Creative Arts industry”
The statement further indicated that the establishment of this court has been the priority of the Akufo-Addo led government and is expected to speed up the resolution of exact issues that affect the Creative Arts industry.
The establishment of the Copyright Court for the Creative Arts industry is in fulfillment of the 2016 manifesto of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
“The NPP will collaborate with the Chief Justice to create a Division of the High Court, focusing on the Creative Arts to deal with all matters relating to intellectual property rights, complete with a dedicated enforcement unit,” their manifesto reads.
