The University of Ghana Basketball league resumed yesterday 20th February 2019 after a break.
Elizabeth Frances Sey Hall faced off against Jubilee/International Students Hostel (JISH) in the first match on Court 1 with Frances Sey beating JISH 13-6.
JISH started the game with quick points out of the gate, but allowed Frances Sey to battle back. Both teams were unable to take advantage of their numerous fast break opportunities. Frances eventually pulled away in the 4th quarter to seal the win.
In the other match which was to be between the Jean Top Nelson Yankah Hall (TF) and Bani Hostel, the match was awarded to TF after Bani failed to show up. TF was given a 20-0 victory as a result. This is the first match of round 2 that a team has been awarded a victory by forfeit.
The next match on court 2 was between neighbors Hilla Limann Hall and Alexander Kwapong Hall.
The match which ended 32-22, was a very physical match with hard fouls and technical calls.
The best player of the match was Kwapong’s Emmanuel Wolf who wore the number 5 jersey. He dictated the offense, scored multiple points and had a couple of blocks.
Limann’s defense could not stop him and resort to fouling him. Emmanuel Amoah-Acheampong of Hilla Limann did his best, but could not complete his team’s potential comeback.
In the fourth game of the day, Accra City Campus thrashed African Union Hall (Pentagon) 45-28. Pent could find no answer of the City campus offense as they seemingly scored at will.
The last match of the day between Mensah Sarbah Hall and Akuafo Hall was by far the most anticipated and most entertaining.
The farmers started the match with 5 quick points which were immediately ruled out due to various violations. In a rollercoaster of a game, Sarbah Hall took an early lead after the first quarter.
Akuafo hall rallied back in the second quarter to take back the lead. Not looking to be undone, Sarbah Hall, led by captain/coach John Amuzu and fellow player Johnson Okoe scored huge 3 pointers and sank free throws.
Amuzu scored 8 points including 2 huge 3 pointers to swing the game and take home the victory. Okoe also ended the match with 10 points.
The league resumes on Friday, 22nd February 2019 at 3 pm.
