Veteran football administrator, Jonathan Abbey Pobee has opposed the idea of pay cut for players amid the Coronavirus Pandemic which has led to the suspension of the Ghana Premier League.
The likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have embarked on pay cuts to cushion the sides against a possible financial crisis, forcing many other clubs to consider the possibility.
However, the Chairman of the Neoplan stars, says most Ghanaian clubs fail to meet the FIFA salary structures for players which amount to cheating of these players hence, clubs must not consider the option of slashing the salaries of their players.
“We don’t have to bring those things here because we are not paying them well, we are cheating them already”.
Also, Mr. Abbey Pobee added that clubs can consider the pay cut policy only when clubs meet the proper laid out salary structures for players.
“We can only think of this when we pay these players what they deserve”.
The Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG) has also thrown their weight behind players amid calls for salary slash.
