The weekend saw the University of Ghana’s Student Representative Council’s General Assembly debut sitting as stipulated in its constitution.
Crucial among the agenda on the order paper was the voting of the Speaker of which Mr. Ewura Karim triumphed, the state of the students’ address, the budget reading and approval and many more.
A little past exactly Friday midnight, came the VOCIFEROUS FOOD MOTION.
The outstanding Honorable Sampson Tagbor, who is affectionately called ‘Sampson with a P‘, rose vigorously as usual to move a motion.
To the utmost astonishment of many, the Honorable member moved that the house goes on a recess so they could do justice to the food awaiting in the forecourt of the SRC Union Center.
In spite that it was a far cry, it penetrated their hearts sweeping an irrefutable ‘yeah yeah’ chorus. The motion, having been seconded by Honorable Ibrahim Dimmie (G.A member for Commonwealth Hall) followed by the absence of a counter motion, the house was ready to game (teeth and tongues).
However the Speaker, Right Honorable Ewura Karim attempted to exhaust the ongoing motion first but the House would not give the ‘devil’ a chance.
Amidst the outcry, the Speaker kowtowed to the VOCIFEROUS FOOD MOTION.
However, in a later submission, the sumptuous meal was called SHAMBOLIC for its petiteness by Honorable Isaacs Aboah (former Legon Hall G. A member).
Nevertheless, the shambolic food was a very strong tower for our hunger in a meeting spanning from Friday, 9pm to Saturday 8am.
