A fire outbreak near the Apremdo market in the Kwesimintsin Municipality has claimed the life of a two year old, whilst destroying about twelve container stalls.
The fire, which started around 1:30 PM on Wednesday, took fire men some 20 minutes to extinguish it before 2PM.
Divisional Officer Grade III Emmanuel Bonney, the Public Relations Officer of the Western Regional office of the Ghana National Fire Service, who confirmed the outbreak of the fire to the Ghana News Agency, said the actual cause of the blaze was yet to be determined.
Meanwhile, Police have taken the necessary on site information and deposited the remains of the two-year old boy at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital for further actions.
According to Him, the fire started from some scattered container stalls before extending to a fuel tanker which was on standby at the Gas filling station near the Apremdo traffic light and thereby aggravating the extent of damage.
DOIII Bonney said the service was able to quench the blaze with six fire tenders sought from stations such as Shama, Naval Base and GPHA among others.
He said when eventually the fire was brought under control, 12 stalls, a mobile money shop and vulcanising Bay had been totally razed down by the ravaging flames.
DOIII Bonney, however complained about the crowd that gathered around the scene of the incident thereby interfering in their work.
He therefore urged the public to always be wary of the effects of fire outbreaks and rather pave way for officials to execute their tasks on time.
