The Dean of Students of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) has appointed a five-member Interim Management Committee of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of the Institution.
According to the Dean of Students, Mr. Mawuli Feglo, the rationale behind the appointment of Nartey Prince Wade as the Chairman of the Committee is “based on the understanding that he has been a class representative for some time.”
The appointment of the Committee comes at the back of the inability of the incumbent SRC executives to hold on-campus elections as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic.
In the statement sighted by #UniversNews, the Chairman of the Interim SRC committee has been mandated to “steer the affairs of the Council until substantive SRC executives are elected.”
“Your terms of reference are to have the powers of elected SRC Executives until new executives are elected, and assist in the conduct of SRC elections within two months of resumption of on-campus academic work,” the statement dated July 27, 2020 said.
Other members of the Committee include Miss Asantewaa Patience, Deputy Chairman, Ampofo Clifthen, Financial Secretary, Mr Akpatsu Seth, Auditor, and Miss Asante Gifty, Secretary.
Their appointment takes immediate effect.
Meanwhile, some aspirants and students of the University have kicked against the appointment of the Committee.
They are charging management of the Institution for not consulting relevant stakeholders in the decision making process, although they admit the appointment of Interim Committee is necessary.
