University of Ghana Students Representative Council legal advisor, Mr. Afram Adomako Jnr. and the Mensah Sarbah Hall JCR legal advisor, Mr. Prosper Batariwah have both condemned the decision of the Electoral Commission to annul the electoral results of some polling stations in Friday’s SRC election.
The two described the conduct of the Electoral Commission, led by Mr. Roland Eyram Tettey, as unconstitutional.
According to them, the decision by the EC was based on personal sentiments rather than following the dictates of the Constitution and the Constitutional Instrument approved to guide the running of the 2019 UG-SRC election.
The Electoral Commission, over the weekend, nullified the voting result of some four polling stations.
The four were Commonwealth Hall polling station, Mensah Sarbah polling station, Jean Nelson Aka Hall polling station and the Korle-Bu campus polling station.
In a release signed by the Chairman of the EC, Mr. Roland Eyram Tettey, the nullification of the results in those polling stations is as a result of cases of over-voting and other electoral irregularities.
He added that technical difficulties and the subsequent resignation of the Electoral Commissioner at the Korle-Bu Campus necessitated the cancelling of results.
The Electoral Commission is expected to announce a date for fresh elections in the affected polling stations in the coming days.
