University of Ghana Student Representative Council presidential aspirant in the forthcoming election, Joseph Michael Quartey, popularly known as J Mike, has petitioned the Electoral Commission to extend the deadline for the filing of nominations.
Aspirants in the forthcoming election, per the directive from the EC, were expected to file their nominations not later than 6pm today Sunday, March 24.
Although some hopefuls met the deadline and submitted their nominations, J Mike reached the Union Building, where he was to file the nomination, some minutes after the stipulated time.
The EC, following the scheduled deadline, did not allow J Mike to file his nominations.

The letter says that J Mike failed to meet the deadline due to circumstances beyond his control.
“We write regrettably to seek for an extension in the deadline for filing nominations for the UG-SRC elections 2019. Our duo, due to unforeseen circumstances beyond our control failed to submit our dorm on due time” excerpts from the letter reads.
The letter further called on the EC to consider the interest of students and essentially extend the deadline in other for him as well as his running mate to file their nominations.
“We do not ask for special treatment, but an opportunity to avail ourselves to the service of students. Your office reserves the discretion to accept our proposal or otherwise, but we believe that the number of students who nominated us will be excited in your attempt to make ease efforts to serve our collective interests” the letter further said.
