Junior Common Room (JCR) executives of the Elizabeth Frances Sey Hall have thrown their support behind the candidature of Julius Anthony, and his running mate Kwaku Asante Bismark, as SRC president and vice president respectively in the upcoming election.
In a communique signed by all JCR executives and copied to Radio Univers, they mentioned that the duo were the best candidates for the positions they are seeking considering their track record in student politics.
“The Elizabeth Frances Sey Junior Common Room wishes to bring to the attention of residents and the general student populace that it has resolved to fully endorse the candidature of Julius Kwame Anthony for SRC president” the communique stated.
The communique however condemned the politicization of the SRC elections while stating that their resolve to back the duo is due to their competence not as result of their political affiliations.
It also condemned allegations that Julius Anthony and Kwaku Asante were favored at the vetting.
According to them, the allegations were without basis.
“The JCR wants to make it fully clear that it condemns, in no uncertain terms, the politicization of the SRC election especially the unfounded claims of political machinations to favor Julius Kwame Anthony and Kwaku Asante Bismark at vetting. We make it clear also that this endorsement has no political colorization” excepts of the communique read.
It further explained that Julius Anthony, a resident of the Elizabeth Frances Sey Hall, had contributed immensely to the growth of the hall by serving in various capacities; a reason they remain committed to endorse him as the right candidate for the position of SRC president in the forthcoming elections.
The communique further stated that his involvement in student politics over the years has equipped him well to score better than he did at the vetting.
“Having served in various capacities within the hall, including but not limited to clerk of the JCR Senate, Member of the Senatorial Review Committee, General Assembly representative as well as being fully aware of his exploits at the University of Ghana Business School and SRC, we believe he could have done better than garnering 82% at the vetting” it stressed.
The communique called on all residents of the hall as well as the general student body to rally behind them.
“The JCR of Elizabeth Frances Sey Hall endorses without reservation, Julius Anthony, a competent and well-meaning student leader who has served and always willing to serve for the office of the SRC president and urge all residents especially, and the general student populace to rally behind the #MakeTheSRCGreatAgain agenda” it concluded.
Injunction suit on the Electoral process
The Judicial board of the University of Ghana SRC on Thursday April 4, granted an interlocutory injunction to halt the processes in the 2019 UG SRC election.
It followed a petition brought to the Board by the former JCR President of the Mensah Sarbah Hall, Joshua Nii Tackie Essel in respect of the disqualification of some candidates in the election by the Vetting Committee.
The Judicial Board received two separate petitions from Isaac Agyemang (disqualified candidate), and Joshua Nii Tackie Essel which sought to restrain the Electoral Commission from using the Constitutional Instrument prepared for the conduct of the elections and bar anyone from continuing with the processes of the election.
The substantive case is set to be heard on Monday April 8, 2019.
