Students of the University of Ghana who ply the route to the N Block lecture hall are feeling threatened following the collapse of a communication pole which has led to the exposure of some section of the wire on the street.
The pole is collapsed right adjacent the social work department and behind the Centre For African Wetland.
Unswervingly under the collapsed pole, the wire is seen hanging about 3 meters from the ground, making it impossible for some vehicles to drive across that stretch.
According to some students who spoke to Univers news, they have seen no move from the appropriate authorities to address the danger it poses both to vehicles and students who use that stretch of the street even though the pole has been damaged for over 3 weeks now.
“I think it is very dangerous seeing this wire on the ground and even it hanging around, maybe it can even hang on a car and an accident can happen due to the wire. I have being seeing this for a while and I don’t know why nothing has been done so far” a student told Univers News.
The communication cable can also be seen lying on the street with some portion of it distorted and thus exposing the naked wire on the ground.
Another student, speaking to UniversNews, expressed her displeasure over the situation while commenting on how dangerous it is using the road and witnessing a bare wire on the ground owing to the fact that we are still experiencing some rains.
“To me actually it is not safe, because anything can happen; it has been raining for some time now so it can do anything and even cause shocks. It is not totally safe and I think it is very bad. It is not safe for a live wire to be on the bare ground, we are in the university and this is a major street used by students to lectures”
Students are thus calling on the relevant authorities to quickly come to their aid by fixing the destroyed pole because they feel unsafe walking around the environs where the pole is broken.
