Level 300 BSc Agriculture student of the University of Ghana, David Hughes Doneenoba has been elected as the new Junior Common Room President of the Jean Nelson Aka Hall.
He defeated his only opponent, Edmund Agyei, to lead residents of hall for the 2019/2020 academic year.
Per the results available to UniversNews, David garnered 547 votes (66.30%) whereas Edmund trailed behind with 278 votes (33.70%).
Speaking to UniversNews after the declaration of the results, Electoral Commissioner for hall, Windell Sakyi, expressed his joy at the smooth running of the election.
“By God’s grace the election is over and the results have been declared. Personally, I’m very happy for myself and I’m happy for the hall because this is the voice of the people. People have voted for the people they want to become their leaders”
He added that the election was free, fair and devoid of any form of electoral malpractice.
“It’s shown clearly that there was no form of dishonesty in the election, people voted and then the systems too worked for everybody and so the results that were declared were a true reflection of what the people did. There were no arguments so I should say…”
Windell Sakyi also expressed gratitude to members of the Electoral Commission from their assistance in the organization of the election.
“I want to thank my deputies, my secretary every single person that helped us out and our IT guys for being honest with us “
A total of 836 residents of the Jean Nelson Aka hall cast their ballot in the elections.
Others who were also elected to serve in various capacities are Odame Fredrick (Financial Secretary), Rachel Amoh Ampong (Vice-President) and Edmund Agyare (Organizing Secretary).
Sylvia Boamah Yeboah and Kingsley Ayisi Obeng were also elected as General Secretary and Sports Secretary respectively.
