The Mensah Sarbah Hall Field, popularly known as Sarbah Field which is located opposite Legon Hall Annex B on University of Ghana campus has been closed down for Christian religious activities until further notice.
All groups or persons who hold religious meetings on the field have been advised to relocate these activities to the Athletic Oval.
According to authorities, the relocation is to allow for some renovation works to be undertaken on the park.
The announcement was made at a Chaplaincy meeting which was attended by student leaders and executives from various denominations under the University Christian Fellowship (UCF) at the SRC Union Building.
Groups and individuals who hold various religious meetings on the park have faced various criticisms from other members of the university community for making excessive noise.
Chairman of the University’s Chaplaincy Board, Rev. Dr. Abamfo Atiemo, at the meeting, advised Christian leaders on campus to limit the use of sound systems on the Athletic Oval field to avoid public disturbance.
Also speaking at the meeting, Dean of Students Affairs, Prof. Godfred Bopkin, called on denominational leaders to be each other’s keeper with regards to noise making.
It is rumoured that the construction of Legon Hall’s Annex D, as promised by President Akufo-Addo at Legon Hall’s alumni homecoming last year will be undertaken on the Sarbah Field.
