Aspirants for various leadership portfolios in the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology for the 2019 Students Representative Council (SRC) elections could face disqualification for defying school authorities’ orders not to litter the campus with campaign posters; the KNUST SRC Electoral Commissioner has warned.
Mr. Awuah N. Akwasi, the SRC Electoral Commissioner has indicated that whoever posts or erect campaigning posters does so illegally.
Numerous students have since declared their intentions to contest for various student level positions in KNUST ahead of the 2019 campus elections.
A statement released by the KNUST SRC Electoral Commission early Wednesday, January 9, 2019 stated that, “It has come to the notice of the commission that some personalities have began circulating materials around campus purportedly in a bid to forward their political ambitions”.
According to the Commission, it is by the notice issuing a strong word of caution to these individuals to desist immediately from this objectionable act.
“Anyone found guilty of having run afoul of this rule will face the full rigors of the law and risk being disqualified from vying for any position in the coming polls,” the statement emphasized.
The Commission further reminded students that KNUST runs a ”paperless system” of information dissemination, which is aimed at preserving the beauty and sanitation of the campus for that reason any attempt by anyone or any group of persons to disrupt the process will be treated with the contempt due them.
