A Senior lecturer at the Wisconsin University, Dr. Samuel Worlanyo Mensah has asked government to tackle the issue of development holistically.
Analyzing President Akufo-Addo’s third State of the Nation’s address in Parliament yesterday on the Business Trendz show, Dr. Mensah expressed discontent on the centralization of development in urban centers.
According to him, the government failed to address much policies with regards to the ‘Ghana beyond aid‘ policy and thus the need to adopt an integrated rural development module approach.
In his view, this will develop many rural areas through industrialization and ward off cases of social vices within urban centers.
“The 2019 SONA failed to address most of the issues as far as the Ghana beyond aid policy is concerned, because you realized that there is a module dubbed Integrated Rural Development Policy and Program which India has been a beneficiary of such program after adopting in the late 70’s.
Government need to develop the economy through such module thereby decentralizing the economy through industrialization in our rural areas. Centralization of development in urban areas can lead to a national security threat” Dr. Mensah noted
He further added that investor confidence in the country is very high but Ghana seem not acting proactively with its policies and programs to lure the investors.
“our micro economic indicators are stable and a lot of investors are ready to invest into our economy but we seem not ready with our policies and programs. We have visions and ambitions but it appears it becoming a lip service without much efforts been put into it”
