Following a protest by some students of the Ghana Institute of Journalism against school authorities for disallowing some of their colleagues from partaking in the ongoing end of semester examinations, management of the school has cancelled this afternoon’s set of papers.
Level 400 Journalism and Public Relations students were scheduled to write their Introduction to Media Management and Counseling for Public Relations papers respectively this afternoon.
The papers were to be written between 1:00PM and 3:00PM this afternoon.
Today, some students of the Communication specialized school staged what they describe as a “silent protest” against school management in solidarity with their colleagues who have been denied from writing their papers for failing to pay their fees in full.
The students, numbering over a hundred, arrived in school clad in Red and Black.
Although school authorities is yet to give an official response to the matter, the Students Representative Council of the school has urged the students to be calm as they dialogue with school management.
However, some students have accused the SRC for not living up to expectations as they are yet to give a strong stand on the matter.
UniversNews understands that scores of armed police personnel are currently on the school premises to restore calm.
Furthermore, reports reaching UniversNews indicate that the protesters have declined to backed down until they hear officially from school management.
Per the examination timetable, Level 200’s and 100’s are scheduled to write their first papers tomorrow.
