Former Black Stars management chairman, Mr. Fred Pappoe has put his hat in the ring for the office of President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) once the GFA Normalization Committee brings its work to an end hopefully by the end of March 2019.
The board member of second-tier club, Great Olympics is the latest to indicate his interest in becoming the next President of the GFA.
Other persons said to have expressed interest in the GFA Presidency is Dream FC’s owner Kurt Okraku, GHALCA Chairman Kudjoe Fianoo and Tema Youth’s Financier Winfred Osei Kwaku Parma
Mr. Fred Pappoe confirmed his decision of running for the high football office when nominations are opened in an engagement with UniversSports
“It is most likely I will be contesting if the nominations are opened and I can confidently say there’s quite a broad base of support out there” he revealed
He further stated that he was ready to face whatever challenge comes his way.
“In the first place, until such a time that nominations are filled and submitted, you cannot say for sure or with certainty that a particular person is contesting.
But that notwithstanding, in terms of all who have indicated their interest and all who may be making their interest known at a later date or so, I still believe I can mount a strong challenge” he said.
The former GFA Vice-President also distanced himself from corruption allegations leveled against him because of his association with former GFA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi who was caught on tape receiving bribe.
“You have to look at the time sphere within which all those things happened and then draw your own conclusions. I was given the mandate to serve, I served and at a point in time I stepped out. As at the time I was in and after I had stepped out, nobody has been able to say anything about me, so that speaks for itself”
Pappoe was deputy to Kwesi Nyantakyi during his first term and he is looking to stage a comeback into leadership position at the federation following his exit from the Executive Committee in 2015.
