Acting Director for the Academic Assurance Unit at the University of Ghana, Prof. Daniel Ofori has reiterated the essence of the evaluation system undertaken by students to check and improve the effective learning and teaching in the school.
The lecture evaluation system according to him puts lecturers on their toes to deliver the best teaching service students in making the University a world class institution.
“This activity is really taken seriously by management, we scrutinize every evaluation done by students and we make sure we follow up issues that concerns lecturers’ abysmal teaching performance. So therefore we plead with all students to take this exercise very serious in making the university world class school.
He thus added that “if we don’t see the essence of this evaluation system now, we may eventually see it later and we have also provided links for all form of complaints by students regarding which enables student to directly communicate with the unit”.
Prof. Ofori has further revealed that the portals for course evaluation will be opened on Monday, October 29 and thus encouraged students to participate in the exercise.
He also noted that a different turn has been taken by infusing the verification of registered courses with the course lecture evaluation which is to ensure that every student takes up this in the exercise.
“Because we want more students update on this semester course evaluation lecture, we’ve intended to add the course lecture evaluation and course verification as a single subject. The course verification also helps one to know if his or her required subjects or courses supposed to be undertaken are registered’’
He stressed that at the end of the process, the Unit will give its results to lecturers to also access their performance depending on the assessment made by students and be handed a query if found of any misbehavior.
The Course Lecture Evaluation is a system that allows students to evaluate their lecturers and courses every semester. It is compulsory activity taken at the latter part of every semester within a three-week period.
