Janet Maame Serwaa Arkoful, a 3rd- year Nursing student has been voted as the University of Ghana SRC General secretary elect.
Maame Serwaa Arkoful also popularly known as “Flower Girl” is set to take-over from Aboraa Sika Marfo as UG-SRC General Secretary after beating Fafa Esi Mensah, in what was a close race.
As of the time results from polling centers were trickling in, Fafa Esi Mensah was in a commanding lead, however Maame Serwaa Arkoful had the last laugh.
Many described the race for the General Secretary portfolio as the most competitive in this year’s election not because two pretty girls were contesting, but rather largely due to the propaganda and drama that characterized the race.
Both camps were confronted with lots of allegations with Maame Serwaa being the worst affected. In a build up to the election, rumors were rife that Maame Serwaa was in a love relationship with 2014 UG-SRC failed presidential candidate, Mikdad Mohammed and as such receiving campaign support from him. She later publicly refuted all of such allegations.
Maame Serwaa Arkoful garnered a total of 2188 votes representing 54.2% of total votes cast as against Fafa Esi Mensah’s 1853 votes representing 45.8%.
In the treasurer race, Ethel Donkor beat Emmanuel Effah to become treasurer-elect. Ethel Donkor obtained 2,075 votes as against Effah Emmanuel 1,863 votes.
The Presidential race is however headed to a run-off between Daniel Otting Awuah & Sylvester Amoako Kwashie.
The UG-SRC electoral commission is yet officially communicate the date for the run-off.
