The Chair of the University Council, Rtd Justice Sophia A.B Akuffo has intimated that conversations are ongoing to secure collaboration between a local pharmaceutical company and the University of Ghana School of Pharmacy.
The comment was made during her first official tour of the university campus on Wednesday 8th September 2021 with some university officials since her appointment.
Speaking to UniversTV, Rtd Justice Sophia A.B Akuffo disclosed that the vision for the collaboration was to engage and encourage more industry players to invest in research and training centers for the school.
“I got a little whisper that already, there is an arrangement that is been made with one of the local pharmaceutical companies so that the School of Pharmacy will have somewhere that there will be the brilliant exchange of knowledge”
A major highlight of her tour was the stop at the construction site of the University of Ghana School of Engineering Training Centre and Toyota Ghana Workshop.
The 18-month project which commenced in February sits on a 6-acre piece of land.
The Training School, which is a replica of a typical Toyota workshop facility, will occupy about 1.7 acres of the total land size.
It will comprise a 250-capacity training lecture room, canteen, ICT Centre, office space, library, and a practical training center.
The purpose of this facility is to enable students to acquire in-house training before heading to the Toyota workshop for industry training.
The Dean of School of Engineering, Prof Boateng Onwona-Agyeman, and Architect Ayite Aryee were present at the construction site to receive the University entourage.
Some University officials with the Chair on the tour included, Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, Pro-Vice-Chancellor the Office of Research, Innovation, and Development (ORID), Professor Felix Asante, Public Affairs Director, Elizier Ameyaw-Buronyah, Registrar, Mrs. Emelia Agyei-Mensah among others.
