Electoral Commissioner of the Alexander Adum Kwapong Hall Junior Common Room, Andy Ackah Enyimah, has resigned from post over what he describes as ‘excessive’ interference from the JCR executives.
According to him, the electoral body has consistently been receiving orders from authorities, a development he reckoned as violation of their constitutional powers and autonomy.
Mr. Enyimah maintained that “anything you do is overseen by someone, an overseer, [hence], we are no longer independent.”
Speaking on Campus Exclusive on Wednesday, April 28, 2021, he further mentioned that the Electoral Commission is being suffocated financially.
He explained that since his appointment as the EC, the JCR has, on several occasions, denied his budget approvals, even with the proposed budget allocated for running this year’s JCR elections.
“The level of interference is too much,” Andy Enyimah recounted, adding that the level of bureaucracy is one his Office would not be ready to accept.
He was also disappointed in the Hall Tutor for showing no interest in the affairs of students in the hall.
“The Tutor is unconcerned with matters of the Junior Common Room (JCR),” he alleged.
Meanwhile, Mr. Enyimah indicated that he is not concerned about the position of his deputies over the subject matter.
“That is up to them,” he said.
