Undergraduate students of the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ) will commence their first semester examinations for the 2020/2021 academic year today, April 6, 2021.
The end-of-semester exams will be held online.
The examination was earlier scheduled to commence on Monday, March 29, 2021 but was postponed after management of the Institute “magnanimously” extended the registration period for students who failed to register for their first semester courses over late payment of fees.
Authorities at the Institute in a notice to students directed that students defer their programmes for late payment of fees.
This directive received backlash from students with some of them describing it as “insensitive”.
They subsequently staged demonstrations on Wednesday, March 23, 2021 to press home their demand, asking school management to rescind its decision.
After series of meetings with leaders of the Concerned Tertiary Students of GIJ, Management of the Institute granted a general amnesty to non-registered students.
In all, students of the Institute are expected to write the examinations for at least 8 courses they registered for.
