Political parties must adhere to road safety codes – Road Safety Authority

The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has entreated political parties to strictly observe all traffic rules and regulations in the quest to propagate their campaign messages.

As political campaigns and rallies intensify, with barely a week to the general elections, the Authority is sending a caution to party activists to respect road safety codes to prevent any future occurrences that will claim lives.

David Osafo Adonteng, Director of Planning and Programs for the Road Safety Authority, encouraged the political parties to treat the codes will all seriousness.

His statement is in line with recent road crashes that claimed lives of some NDC supporters.

“It is very critical at this time for political parties to buy into the concept of the road safety codes. They have signed for it to serve as a guide for them for they are traveling to their rallies, their campaigns, this guide is something to guide them, how they go, when they go and when they get to their destination, what they should do; it is my expectation that they will all abide by the content of the code,” he told UniversNews in an interview.

He further added that as part measures for reduce road accidents, the Road Safety Authority has decided to pair drivers during long journeys to enable drivers get enough rest.

According to him, this will help prevent instances where drivers, even when tired, continue to take long journeys thereby putting the lives of passengers in danger.

“We are going to ensure that long distance drivers are in pairs, not one! Most of the drivers get involved in road accidents because of tiredness,” he stated.
