President-elect of the University of Ghana Student Representative Council(UGSRC), Prince Asumadu, says the Grace of God delivered victory to him and his team despite plots by certain student activists and influencers on campus to ensure that he lost in his quest to become SRC president.
“We did our best at the presidential debate. The campaign was very heated. You know how UG SRC elections are been run on campus…the schemes, the mafia, and all that…I won’t go into details but you know…here we are now…” Ebenezer, bebia Nyame ne y3n ab3dru nie”. So by God’s Grace, we were able to plan, we worked very hard towards the aspirations and the dreams because we realized the entire University students…Legon deserves better. So regardless of all the plots, the schemes, the mafia, the heat…, we stood on our feet” he said on Campus Exclusive on Monday, November 1, 2021, amidst laughter.
The third-year Public Administration and Sociology student beat his contender, Samuel Amos Ofosu, in the presidential run-off elections after the four presidential candidates in the first phase of the elections failed to secure 50% plus 1 vote requirement in the elections held on Wednesday, October 20, 2021.
Prince Asumadu together with his vice Wisdom Ndukwe, who trailed behind in the first phase of the elections mounted a huge comeback in the run-off elections by garnering 7,647 votes representing 51.6% of valid votes cast to emerge as President and Vice President elects respectively.
Samuel Amos Ofosu popularly known as Nana B, who led in the first phase of the elections lost by obtaining a total of 7,156 votes representing 48.3% of valid votes cast.
The “Y3y3dom” team of Prince Asumadu and Wisdom Ndukwe become the next democratically elected leaders of UGSRC after 2019 when Isaac Agyemang beat Anthony Julius.
