Some aggrieved teachers from three regions in the country are bemoaning what they term as “neglect” by the Ghana Education Service (GES) following poor conditions they were forced to endure during day one of a four-day workshop organized by the University of Ghana service to them.
GES in a letter dated 6th January 2020, invited Form 3 Core Subject teachers from the Greater Accra, Oti, and Volta Regions to a 4-day workshop at the premises of the University of Ghana beginning today, Monday, January 13, 2020.
According to the teachers, GES has failed to cater for their welfare needs especially their feeding after camping at the University of Ghana.
The teachers are currently undergoing in-service training at the University of Ghana to equip students ahead of the 2020 West African Schools Certificate Exams.
The training is geared towards bringing together experienced educationists, examiners, and teachers to interact with to improve teaching and learning outcomes.
Mr. Matthew Kumenyenu one of the teachers who spoke to univers news said that the teachers were registered according to their courses to get the total sum of teachers so as to know the food to be allocated to them but the food was not enough.
“With about 1000 teachers only the few given food were 30 and they told the remaining numbers that the food was done with”.
In a new development, the teachers walked out of an introductory meeting held Monday with many complaining about the improper planning of the whole program.
One of the teachers spoke to Univers news said, he wasn’t excited about the unplanned program and the impromptu call for a workshop
“ We are not happy and comfortable about the way the program was organized and don’t even know the people that have organized the program, we need people to answer some questions for us before we get back to the room,” he said.
