Ghana is set to mark the International Youth Day (IYD) with a series of programs with the National youth Authority at the helm of organization.
International Youth Day gives an opportunity to celebrate and mainstream young peoples’ voices, actions and initiatives, as well as their meaningful, universal and equitable engagement.
Internationally, the commemoration will take the form of a podcast-style discussion that is hosted by youth for youth, together with independently organized commemorations around the world that recognize the importance of youth participation in political, economic and social life and processes.
Globally the world will mark the day with the theme “Youth Engagement for Global Action”.
This seeks to highlight the ways in which the engagement of young people at the local, national and global levels is enriching national and multilateral institutions and processes, as well as draw lessons on how their representation and engagement in formal institutional politics can be significantly enhanced.
In Ghana, this year’s edition of International Youth Day event will be earmarked under auspices of the National Youth Authority in collaboration with United Nations and UNFPA.
The occasion will commence with a launch on Wednesday morning, August 12, at the Swiss Alisa Hotel, Ridge Accra accompanied with 2 days of insightful youth dialogue sessions on different topical issues pertaining to various sectors and specific terrains.
This year’s celebration will be marked under the theme “Youth Engagement Mitigating the Impact of COVID-19: The Need For Innovation and Creativity”.
Special Guest of Honor for the event is Her Excellency, the Second lady, Republic of Ghana, Mrs. Samira Bawumia.
Other invited guests include Hon. Isaac Kwame Asiamah, Minister of Youth & Sports. Mr. Sylvester Tetteh, Chief Executive Officer, National Youth Authority.
Due to the surgence of the novel coronavirus, the event will be held with limited participants at the venue so as to observe the safety protocols associated with the ailment.
It will be streamed live virtually on Twitter and Facebook @National Youth Authority, Ministry of Youth & Sports, Ministry of Information handles and other Media platforms.
