Abdul Karim Salam scored the only goal as the University of Winneba (UEW) male football team edged pass their opponents from the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UNER).
Led by CAF License A coach Ebenezer Amoo, the boys from Sunyani climbed onto the turf in ‘terminator’ style impressing in the early ember with their pin point passes and fluid style of play. But the pendulum swung to the side of the Winneba team who stole the show from then on.
Former Olympics striker, Abel Mannomey, failed to find the net when he came one-on one with goalkeeper Jonathan Okyere of the University of Energy and Natural Resources.
The Winneba boys sprang up into nearly perfect mode after the recess forcing Jonathan Okyere to spill a low strike into his net.
Striker Abel Mannomey collected a long pass and completed a parallel run from the left flank, before setting it up for Karim Salam who found the bottom left corner of the net with a well sliced shot.
Mannomey saw yet another effort of his parried out of goal area, before UNER skipper Ebenezer Boateng’s 25 yards volleyed effort sent shivers down the spine of the UEW bench only to be saved by the ingenuity of the goalkeeper.
The Winneba lads defended their lines well with Gura Gyankye and Painstil repelling every threat in the University of Winneba box.
The game ended 1-0 in favor of Coah Osei Oppong’s men whose resilience was tested in harmattan conditions.
