The Maiden edition of the Emerging Music Awards (EMA) was launched on Friday, April 26, 2019, by Kusstar Entertainment at the Global Cinema, Weija – Accra.
The aim of EMA scheme is to recognize up and coming musicians, who do not get the needed recognition at the already well-established and household name award events.
Speaking on Radio Univers’ entertainment show ‘Brunch to Lunch’, PRO for EMA, Afia Papabi indicated that the scheme will look out for talented Up and coming musicians who are determined to take music as their profession but not anybody who can sing or rap.

She, however, mentioned Emerging Afro-pop artist, Emerging Gospel artist, Emerging Reggae artist, Emerging Highlife artist, Emerging Hiplife artist, Emerging Traditional artist and Emerging artists of the year as some of the categories for nomination.
Other categories include the Emerging song of the year, Emerging Female artist of the year, Emerging Male artist of the year, Emerging Album of the year, Emerging Music video of the year and Emerging youngest artist of the year.
