President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has appointed Kwame Owusu to head the Ghana Revenue Authority Board as its chairman, according to a letter cited by UniversNews.
The letter signed by the Executive Secretary to the President, Nana Asante Bediatuo, noted that the appointment had been done in consultation with the Council of State.
Mr. Kwame Owusu is to indicate his acceptance or otherwise of this appointment within 14 days of the receipt of the letter.
Mr. Kwame Owusu who is the former Managing Director of the Ghana Maritime Authority came under intense public fire late last year after it came to light that he had fitted his 2-bedroom official bungalow with 13 air-conditioners.
Again, it was alleged that he had renovated his official residence with GHC 1m.
He is also alleged to have spent GHC130,000 for an end of year party for Staff of Ghana Maritime Authority, after spending GHC10,000 on lunch from a hotel he owned, with anti-corruption fighters noting that could be conflict of interest.
At the time, Kwame Owusu did not resign neither did the president heed calls to dismiss him.
However, he reportedly resigned as MD of the Ghana Maritime Authority in February 2019.
He resigned a few weeks after he was accused of financial misappropriation at the company.
But according to the Transport Minister minister, the resignation was because Mr. Owusu had attained the age of 65 and was retiring.
