The game between University of Ghana and University of Professional Studies, Accra, in the women’s basketball division was halted and eventually paused due to an electrical development at the court.
The last game in the basketball tournament of match day 8 saw the ladies from the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) take on the ladies of the University o Ghana (UG). A win for UG was the result expected from all present.
The game started as most of the fans and spectators expected. UG played with an intensity and a must win mentality as they made sure UPSA did not make any shots.
UPSA struggled to put together meaningful possessions and ended the quarter scoreless.
UG on the hand scored 10 unanswered points to close out the quarter 12-0.
The second period started in the same vein as the first. UG did not relent in their pressure and scored 6 straight points in the opening 90 seconds.
The introduction of no. 15 Hannah Amoako and no.24 Karlen Naa Adjei saw UG blow the game wide open.
UPSA did not give up as no. 12 Wendy Dadzie led them and eventually scored their first points with less than 5 minutes remaining in the quarter.
At this point however, it was clear to everyone present that the UG team was the better team of the day.
The quarter ended with UG leading UPSA 42-2.
The third quarter was one of intrigue and wonder. UPSA were held scoreless in the entire quarter as UG made shot after shot to ice the game.
With 4:51 left in the quarter and UG leading 56-2, the floodlights on the basketball court went out leading to a stoppage of game.
After about 20 minutes of waiting, it was agreed among the officials and coaches that the game would be put on hold.
The game will resume on match day 9, Monday, January 13th at 7 am.
