Director of Sports at the University of Ghana, Dr. Bella Bello Bitugu, is hopeful that construction works at the school’s sports stadium will be completed soon.
His outfit, he said, is doing its best to ensure that works on the facility are wrapped up within the shortest possible time.
“We are expecting the completion soon, we are working very hard. We used to say that we are doing our best and look where we are now, look at what is happening now. You can see we have made huge progress and in the next three months, I hope something can happen on the field.
“Something is going to happen. We are hopeful just as we said last year and indeed something happened,” he assured.
On rising rumours that Ghana Premier League side, Legon Cities FC will use the UG sports stadium as their home field after its completion, Dr Bitugu said “the decision doesn’t lie in [his] hand even though it is under [his] unit.”
“It needs to go through so many processes and even if the University says yes, the legal issue contract itself can take 3 to 6 months. So let us wait as and when a development comes up, we take it up…
“I believe everything is possible. If we have a stadium and a team wants to use the stadium for a match, it is always possible but it is just the implications, dynamics and the complexity that comes with it,” he intimated.
Meanwhile, he disclosed that the University is scouting for more talents to improve the school’s sport team.
“We are also looking around [and] nurturing some who are in form 1 and form 2 in SHS to prepare them. There are some who have even completed but we are trying to see if they can rewrite and then we see what happens.”
