The biggest Basket ball fiesta in Ghana, the Sprite Ball Championship commences today at the El-walk Sports Stadium Basketball court with 12 schools expected to participate in the Boys category.
Making their maiden appearance for the first time in the history of the competition are Bishop Herman College and Keta Business School who are among the three representing Male schools from the Volta region.
Both schools are said to have brought a whole new dimension in terms of Basketball in the region and are hopeful of fighting for the trophy.
The task is however herculean, as Keta Business School have been seeded in the same group with defending champions Presec-Osu who won last year’s edition only in their second appearance in the Sprite ball championship which has been running for the past 12 years.
Physical Education Coordinator for the Ghana Education Service in the region, Mr. Bright Djodji also expressed optimism, as he is confident about the chances of the two schools.
“This year, we are presenting 3 strong, competitive schools and amongst them are Bishop Herman School and Keta Business College. We are very hopeful we can go far and so the fans in the Region should expect nothing but the best” he said.
Meanwhile all the participating schools are said to have arrived safely in Accra and are being camped at the Hilla Limann Hall of the University of Ghana.
Mrs. Cynthia Wise, the Assistant P.E National coordinator assured Univers Sports that everything is in place for the games to begin as scheduled.
“Accommodation and organization have been on point so far and no one has encountered any issues yet” she stressed
The first match of the day will be between Defending champions PRESEC-OSU and Keta Business College.
The Competition takes place from the 11th to the 12th of January, 2019.
