Coach of the University of Ghana Tennis club, Philip Gbedife, says that student participation in the sport is impressive despite the outbreak of the coronavirus disease.
He says that more students continue to express their interest in the sport.
Philip Gbedife, who has guided the UG team to many victories says that they have, among others, busied themselves with scouting and training of athletes ahead of any tournament that may come up.
“It has been quite good (students’ participation in tennis) so far. Aside from the fact that we have already established players in the team, we have also been scouting and training people from the various halls and campuses. We do this not purposely for ourselves but also to bolster the halls’ teams and school’s team ahead of competitions,” he told UniversSports.
Coach Philip said that all tournaments that they could have been involved in have been suspended due to the pandemic.
Nonetheless, he says that the team will keep on training.
He disclosed that are some new members have joined the team.
“We don’t have any major competition yet due to the virus so what we are doing is to train, train, train and hoping that Covid will vanish so that active sports will return. We are doing this to keep ourselves in shape to be able to represent the school whenever we are called upon. We also currently have some freshers we are training, so everything is going on well for us,” he added.
