Director at University of Ghana Sports Directorate, Dr Bella Bello Bitugu has revealed that the directorate will sign a collaboration agreement with five departments on the University of Ghana campus to provide assistance during sporting activities organized by the directorate.
The five departments are: UG Department of Health Sciences, Department of Psychology, Department of Food and nutrition, Department of Guidance and counseling, and the Physiotherapy department at Korle bu.
Dr. Bello made this revelation in a reaction to the 2020 GUSA games Local Organizing Committee’s report recommendation of a standing medical committee for the sports directorate.
The report indicated that shortage and unavailability of some logistics derailed the work of the sub medical committee at game venues.
It also lamented the delays in initiating their activities and getting budget and non-participation by some members during the games.
Dr. Bello speaking on Sports Express indicated that the sports directorate has never organized a sporting event without the presence of medical personnel. However, he believes it has to be well organized.
“There is no competition we do without inviting the medical personnel, be it paramedical or whatever. We have Physiotherapist as well”
However, we think it has to be streamline to make it robust, that is why next week we are signing a collaborative agreement with UG department of health sciences, department of psychology, department of food and nutrition, department of Guidance and counseling, physiotherapy department at Korle bu to see how they would support us, and we have a good relationship with the University of Ghana Medical Services”
