The Rugby team of the Commonwealth Hall is confident that they would be able to beat every team in this year’s edition of the University of Ghana Inter-Hall Rugby League and clinch gold.
This would mean that the Vandals, who were first runner-ups last year, would have to defeat the defending champions, Akuafo Hall.
Speaking to UniversSports, Assistant captain of the Commonwealth hall team, Calvinson Accorlor said that they were not settling for anything less of gold.
“Last year, we were 2nd. We only lost to Akuafo in the final. I’ve told my guys that this year, it’s going to be the same, the unbeaten streak has started. We were third in 2018 and second in 2019. This is 2020 and we are only settling for gold. We are here to win the ultimate,” he said.
First round of matches results
The League has already commenced with some interesting results being recorded.
Defending champions Akuafo Hall was on top of their game as they secured a 9-0 victory over Jean Nelson.
Commonwealth Hall hall also managed to overcome the Jubilee/International Students Hostel (JISH) team, recording a 12-5 win.
The female teams of the Volta Hall and Akuafo Hall clashed, with the game ending in a 0-0 stalemate.
The Mensah Sarbah Hall team had a disappointing beginning as they suffered an 11-0 defeat in their game against the Hilla Limann Hall.
Captain of the Sarbah team, Osei Akoto, after the game, told UniversSports that he was optimistic that his team was going improve its performance and bounce back stronger.
“We were looking to get off to a good start but unfortunately that didn’t happen. We still have four more games to salvage something. We must just let bygones be bygones and focus on what’s ahead. Looking forward to the games ahead of us, we think we can stand a chance. We have a very good side and we are not going to underestimate anybody,” he said
