Sir Kay’s Premier League Predictions for Match day 22
What a start to the new-year it has been. It’s been goals, goals and more goals.
This weekend promises to be even much better with some mouthwatering clashes with Manchester United traveling out to Wembley to take on Tottenham Hotspurs as West Ham play hosts to Arsenal at the London stadium in a London Derby.
Here are Sir Kay’s Predictions for this weekend’s fixtures.
West Ham vs. Arsenal (Saturday 12:30pm)
West Ham have a very poor home record against Arsenal as they have not been able to defeat them in their last 11 home games and they have lost more Premier league games against Arsenal (29) than any other side. I think West Ham were fortunate to have crawled back from behind to salvage a point against Brighton the last time out. Arsenal on the other hand were very fortunate not to have gone down early in their game against Fulham. They did well by winning there and that FA Cup win will give them more confidence. With the attacking threat of Arsenal I see them winning here.
Sir Kay Predicts: West Ham 1-3 Arsenal
Brighton vs. Liverpool (Saturday 3pm)
Brighton disappointed me last time out as I felt they should have been able to see out the game after they took a two goal lead inside the second half with barely 25 minutes more to play, but I must say I was very much impressed with their display in the FA Cup as they knocked out Bournemouth. Liverpool have been woeful in their last two games as all of a sudden their defense seems to have gone back to it’s default setting! Their defensive problem is aggravating with Lovren the latest addition to their defensive injury list. I still fancy Liverpool winning here as they have been wounded in the past two weeks and Klopp will be looking for a massive response from his men.
Sir Kay Predicts: Brighton 1-4 Liverpool
Burnley vs. Fulham (Saturday 3pm)
Sean Dyche is gradually turning Burnley’s fortunes around as they have turned the corner since they’re humiliating 5-1 home defeat to Everton a couple of weeks ago. They have won 3 on the trot and have set themselves a date with Man City in the FA Cup 4th round. Turf Moor is a difficult place to go and get some points and I believe Burnley will get the job done here as they have some difficult run of games coming up against Watford, Man City and Man Utd. Fulham should learn to take their chances as the outcome of their game against Arsenal could have taken a different turn had they taken those early chances.
Sir Kay Predicts: Burnley 2-1 Fulham
Cardiff vs. Huddersfield (Saturday 3pm)
I think this will be an interesting game as both sides need the maximum points here. I probably think Huddersfield Town should be relegated after this game if they lose because they have a tough fixture schedule coming up after this against Man City, Everton, Chelsea and Arsenal and I doubt they will come out with a point in those games. I’ll probably go for a Huddersfield win here as I felt they were unlucky against both Fulham and Burnley and probably were on course to win the game against Burnley until Schindler’s unnecessary red card.
Sir Kay Predicts: Cardiff 1-2 Huddersfield
Crystal Palace vs. Watford (Saturday 3pm)
Watford should have won at Bournemouth last two weeks, there’s no excuse for that. You can’t afford to go two nil up and get pecked back, get yourself back into the lead again and once again allow your opponents back into the game. It is totally unacceptable at this level. Crystal Palace were impressive last time out against Wolves at the Molineux and they just have to start being consistent and they could see themselves in and around the mid table or even Europa league qualifying spots.
Sir Kay Predicts: Crystal Palace 2-2 Watford
Leicester vs. Southampton (Saturday 3pm)
Leicester were disappointing in the FA Cup last weekend as they got themselves kicked out by a Football League Two side in the 3rd round. Leicester have been unpredictable lately, they lose at home to Cardiff and go away to win at Goodison Park. Southampton needs a win here badly as they are already in the drop zone. I think it’s time Hasenhüttl keeps faith with Charlie Austin and give him a longer run in the side as I believe he will come well. I’ll still go for a Leicester win here though it will be difficult.
Sir Kay Predicts: Leicester 2-1 Southampton
Chelsea vs. Newcastle (5:30pm)
I believe Chelsea put up a very good performance against Spurs in their Carabao cup semi-final first leg in midweek and it must have been disappointing for them to lose in such a controversial manner. They created chances and even hit the post and I felt they were a bit hard done by as they deserved more than they got from the game. Newcastle on the other hand were very good against United last time out and were the better side despite their defeat and I believe Benitez’s tactic almost worked to perfection. Chelsea clearly need an out and out striker as the false 9 system wouldn’t get them as many goals as they want against some of these lower sides. Sarri has said in the past that he doesn’t need a striker as at this time but it is clear that the players and fans would prefer having a reliable striker other than Morata or Giroud in their starting line up or Hazard playing up top. Again I’ll go for a Chelsea win here as I believe Hazard will be the difference between the two sides.
Sir Kay Predicts: Chelsea 2-0 Newcastle
Everton vs. Bournemouth (Sunday 2:15pm)
With both teams tied on the same points (27) and same goals for (31) it should be an entertaining game of football. Everton have lost two premier league games on a row after thrashing Burnley 5-1. They need to end that bad run of form or else Silva’s job could be on the line soon as the coaching job in England is an unforgiving business. Bournemouth going forward are a very dangerous team but they have to sort out their defensive issues as they have been in shambles lately. I’ll go for another draw here as I don’t see both sides ready to win a game anytime soon.
Sir Kay Predicts: Everton 2-2 Bournemouth
Tottenham vs. Manchester United (Sunday 4:30pm)
Manchester United is a different side currently from the one that lost woefully to Spurs by 3 goals to nil at Old Trafford in August last year. They have improved and look full of confidence. The break away from the cold chilly weather in England would have done the players and coaches some good as they hadn’t really had any proper time to work on tactics since Ole took over, a win here would represent a tremendous improvement as this would be the first real test of this rejuvenated Man United side. Tottenham were very fortunate not to have surrendered their lead in the second half to Chelsea the other day as they were disappointing in the second 45minutes but kudos to their defense as they were resolute. United will be glad to have Paul Pogba back as Son will want to make a name for himself once again before going out on international duties. I will go for a draw here as it should be a close encounter but it could still go in favor of any of these sides
Sir Kay Predicts: Tottenham 2-2 Manchester United
Manchester City vs. Wolves (Monday 8pm)
Wolves have been magnificent against the big boys this season as they have already put Chelsea and Tottenham to the sword as well as securing impressive draws against Arsenal, Man City and Man Utd. I don’t see an upset happening here again because City are absolutely flying at the moment and they have scored 16 goals in their last two games. City will win here as they will have an eye on closing the gap at the top even further.
Sir Kay Predicts: Manchester City 4-1 Wolves
