The 48 points included 11 3-pointers and 2 blocks for the two time MVP.
He scored the Warriors last 5 points including a 3-pointer and two free throws.
The game which was played at the American Airlines Center in Dallas saw fellow Warriors Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson score 28 points with 7 rebounds and 5 assists and 16 points with 4 rebounds respectively.
Rookie guard for the Mavericks, Luka Doncic led all Mavericks with 26 points and 6 rebounds followed by Harrison Barnes’s 22 points. The victory saw the Warriors move within a half game of the conference leaders, Denver Nuggets.
The Toronto Raptors also withstood a late burst from the Washington Wizards to complete a double overtime victory.
Washington trailed by 23 points in the second quarter and then went on a serious rally to tie the game at the end of regulation 124-124. Raptors forward Serge Ibaka hit a 3 pointer with 15 seconds left in the second overtime to seal the win for Toronto.
Forward Kawhi Leonard finished with 41 points and 11 rebounds after playing a season high 45 minutes. Bradley Beal of the Wizards finished with his second triple double of the season.
He had 40 points, 15 assists and 10 rebounds including a 3-pointer with 20.4 seconds left in regulation to force overtime.
In a game that many expected the Los Angeles Lakers to easily win, it was rather the Cleveland Cavaliers that prevailed and snapped a 12 game losing streak.
For a Cavaliers team that has struggled to win games and sat with a record of 8-35 in the Eastern conference before the game, this win although not a statement victory did show the young Cavs what is in store for their future.
Forward Cedi Osman led all Cavaliers with 22 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists to along with rookie guard Colin Sexton’s 17 points and 3 assists. Lakers forwards Kyle Kuzma and Brandon Ingram had 29 and 22 points respectively.
The loss means the Lakers are now 3-7 since superstar forward LeBron James got injured on Christmas day.
In other games played, the Denver Nuggets behind a phenomenal performance from center Nikola Jokic beat the Portland Trailblazers 116-113. He had 40 points with 10 rebounds and 8 assists.
Damian Lillard of the Trailblazers had 26 points with C.J. McCollum scoring 18 points. MVP candidate Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 33 points to lead the Milwaukee Bucks to a 133-114 victory over the Atlanta Hawks.
Fellow Bucks guards Eric Bledsoe and Malcom Brogdon had 24 points and 14 points respectively. The victory means the Bucks are still second in the Eastern conference with a record of 30-12.
All-Star voting is still ongoing and fans of the NBA still have a chance to select who represents the Eastern and Western Players at the 68th NBA All-Star game on February 17th 2019.
