Head Coach of the Presbyterian Senior High School (Osu PRESEC) Basketball team, Mr. Emmanuel Nii Lartey has said that his charges are bent on retaining their Sprite Basketball Championship trophy.
Last year, the boys made history as they clinched the 2018 Sprite Ball Championship after beating four-time winners Mfantsipim School 25-22 in the final game of the Championship.
Speaking to Univers Sports, coach Emmanuel Nii Lartey said that they were poised on defending the trophy.
He also added that they would not underestimate any of their competitors in the tournament.
“Last year we did so well with the defensive and the offensive work and we are improving on that for this year’s competition. We have a different squad this year. Our new guys are not fit as compared to that of last year, but we are getting them ready for the competition. We won’t underestimate any school. We are ready to maintain the trophy”
Meanwhile, assistant coach of Osu PRESEC Basketball team also maintained that he was committed to ensuring that the Osu PRESEC team retained their title although they were in the same group with his alma mater, Bishop Herman College.
“I am an old student of Bishop Herman College and I’m happy we are in the same group with them. We will beat them although I’m an old student of the school. I work as an assistant coach for PRESEC Osu and I must do everything to defeat my Alma mater. We will defeat any school that come our way” he stressed.
PRESEC Osu is in group A with Sekondi college from the Western region and Bishop Herman College from the Volta Region.
The 2019 Sprite Ball Championship runs from January 11-12 at the El Wak Stadium in Accra with 12 schools competing in the Boys Division and eight in the Girls Division.
