Ace football administrator, Jonathan Abbey Pobee has taken a swipe at the two major political parties in Ghana for meddling in the affairs of football administration.
In his view, it is this interference that has led to the fallen standards of Ghanaian football.
Mr. Abbey Pobee, speaking exclusively to Univers Sports, disclosed that the New Patriotic and the National Democratic Congress, which are the leading political parties in Ghana are only bent on appointing politically aligned persons as football administrators at the expense of very qualified and neutral people.
He also reiterated that the normalization committee should establish a public interest committee to ensure transparency in their activities thereby preventing shrouding the financial aspect of the committee.
“We are now in the normalization committee era and I was expecting them to change most of the management of the various national teams but due to politics in the game nothing of that sort has been done. I don’t trust both the National Democratic Party and the New Patriotic Party. In fact, I’m fed up with them because they are collapsing football in Ghana. They don’t appoint people with expertise but they rather choose people who are with them. If you have any contribution about the game they will definitely find out your political affiliation and decide on that. I urge the normalization committee to form the public interest committee”
Deliberating on the future development of football in the country, Mr. Pobee stated that the National teams will only do well at international competitions if politics is taken away from football.
“it will take time for our football to bounce back to it good old days. the politics and favoritism is just too much in the game,we need to devoid from that act else we will only be performing badly on the international stage”
Mr. Pobee made these comments on the back of the Black Satellites’ abysmal performance in the on-going U-20 AFRICA Cup of Nations which saw the team exit the competition.
