Ghana Black Stars bounced back from Friday’s 3-0 loss to Mali as they defeated their counterparts from Qatar 5-1.
The Black Stars’ Monday friendly game against Qatar was their second match as part of their preparations for the team’s AFCON qualifier against Sudan.
Midfielder Tariqe Fosu-Henry opened the scoring for the Black Stars in the 22nd minute.
Ali Almoez got the equalizer for Qatar in the 44th minute following a defensive error by the Black Stars.
Skipper Dede Ayew got his first goal for the Stars with an assist from new Arsenal-signing Thomas Partey whose pass was beyond the reach of Goalkeeper Al Sheeb.
Al-Fayha’s Samuel Owusu also got his name on the scoring sheet as Ghana extended their lead to three.
Another goal from Dede Ayew and Trabzonspor-man Caleb Ekuban in the 83rd and 87th minute respectively extended Ghana’s lead further.
Ghana’s win over Qatar is the first for coach C.k Akonnor since his appointment as head coach of the senior male national soccer team.
