Head of Local Government Service in Ghana, Dr. Nana Atto Arthur, is of the opinion that there should be sports desks at every Assembly in the country.
He says that this will fast-track the development of sports in the country.
According to him, sports development happens at the local level, and with football being the passion of the nation, it will be prudent for such a step to be taken.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of new executives of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), on Thursday, 11th February, Dr. Nana Atto Arthur said that the sports desks will be responsible for the hunting of talents at the Assembly levels.
“I have interacted with the GFA President, GHALCA Chairman, and the Youth and Sports Minister Designate. I’m of the view that every development is local.
Football as a sport is very important, and we need to develop sports. It’s our passion. So I’m with the view that we in the local government service can have a Sports desk in every assembly in Ghana so that we will be able to hunt for talents. To begin from the grassroots, I believe is going to help the country,” he said.
The officials sworn into office for the next four-year term to steer the affairs of GHALCA are Mr. Kudjoe Fianoo as Chairman, Linda Ansong as Treasurer, Edmund Ackah, and George Ofosuhene, both as Premier League representatives.
The rest are Eugene Nobel who will be a representative from Division One and Emmanuel Opoku Abrokwah as a representative from Division Two.
These officials were sworn into office by Supreme Court judge, His Lordship Justice Amadu Tanko.
