The Greater Accra Regional Chapters Committee Chairman of Accra Hearts of Oak, Mr. Jean Jacques Kojo Effangon has hit out at Ghanaians players for being wasteful with their salaries.
He stated that professional Ghanaian football players, especially those in ply their trade in the country, tend to spend their salaries on women and drinks which eventually leaves them with nothing upon their retirement.
In a media engagement with CAF Confederation Cup winner Acquaah Harrison, he revealed that he has been left broke despite a glittering career with Accra Hearts of Oak where he helped the squad beat rivals Kumasi Asante Kotoko to win the maiden continental competition.
But reacting to this, Mr. Effangon, indicated that players were paid huge sums of money during the glory days of the two top teams in Ghana during African competitions for their exploits in the early 2000s.
According to him, players should be blamed for their poor state after retirement due to their reckless spending.
Speaking on the Sports Corner show over the weekend, Jacques further indicated that players of Accra Hearts of Oak will, for instance, stay over in Kumasi after their super clash on weekends and squander their salaries and bonuses on ladies and drinks.
