Public Relations Officer for Coach James Kwesi Appiah says that te Ghana Football Association is solely responsible for the payment of the Coach’s salary arrears.
According to Asante Fokuo, the Association signed Kwesi Appiah’s hence it is obliged to pay him, adding that the amount to be paid was clearly stated in the contract.
“In the copy of the contract between Coach Kwesi Appiah and the Ghana football Association, it states the amount the GFA is deemed to pay him for his service and not any other organization; Kwesi Appiah is aware that the GFA signed him and he works for them so they are supposed to pay him and he is not responsible to burden himself with GFA’s source of the fund,” he explained.
He maintained that the former Black Stars Coach may be forced to report the case to FIFA.
He says that FIFA will not consign him to the Ministry of Sports but rather deduct his wages from the amount assigned to the GFA.
“The total amount is 185,000 US Dollars and not 180,000 US Dollars because they are supposed to pay Kwesi Appiah 35,000 US Dollars every month meanwhile they have not been able to pay him for 5 months making a total amount of 175,000 US Dollars. Adding this to a winning bonus of 10,000 US Dollars it makes a total of 185,000 US Dollars,” he argued.
There has been an ongoing tussle between the Ghana Football Association and former Black Stars Coach James Kwasi Appiah after the Association revealed that it is not responsible for paying the coach’s salaries.
Kwasi Appiah has meanwhile revealed that since leaving his post at the beginning of the year, he has tried in vain to retrieve outstanding salaries and bonuses owed him by the GFA.
