The Ghana Football Association Normalization Committee has launched the Special Cup Competition.
The launch was held yesterday Monday at the Secretariat of the Ghana Football Association in Accra.
The tournament was initially cancelled after Premier League clubs decided to boycott the competition. However, after the intervention of the Parliamentary Select Committee for Sports, headed by Hon. Alex Agyekum, the Premier League clubs rescinded on their decision.
Fifteen clubs out of Sixteen premier league clubs confirmed their participation.
Also 47 Division One clubs confirmed their participation out of 48.
Wa All Stars, formerly owned by Kwesi Nyantakyi, was the only side who failed to confirm their participation among the Premier League teams. Division One side New Edubiase Football Club also did not turn up
Each of the participation teams will get GHS 30,000 as participation fee.
The ultimate winner of the tier one Special Competition will represent Ghana in the CAF Confederation Cup as well as take home GHS 200,000.
The runner up will receive GHS 100,00.
Winner of the tier two Special Competition will take home be awarded GHS 150,000 with the runner up receiving GHS 80,000.
Speaking at the launch of the Competition, Chairman for the Normalization Committee, Dr, Kofi Amoah, entreated Ghanaians to show interest in the tournament and rally behind their favourite team.
The competition is set to start on March 31, 2019
