Decathlon Ghana, one of the biggest sports retailers in the country, have affirmed their commitment to supporting women football in Ghana.
The Supply Chain leader of the company, Joseph Adaklumegah, speaking to the media after being announced as the official retail partner of the GFA said that look forward to also supporting street footballer.
He says that it was easy for them to partner with the GFA for the development of football in the country as they realized that they both shared a similar vision.
“We in Decathlon want to focus on the women’s side. We want to help to advance the course of women football in Ghana and also bringing football to the streets. Helping street footballers to have sports equipment and sports gear for them to practice football very well.”
Joseph Adaklumegah further shared some sporting activities that Decathlon had come up with as well as projects they had embarked on, in order to get more people to participate and enjoy sports.
“We realized that the beach was ridden with plastics and for a responsible company like us who is encouraging people to practice sports, we realized there was no way people will go to these beaches to swim. So we came up with a project of ‘clean and play’. The whole purpose of this was to clean the environment and make it available for people to practice sports and we partnered with local authorities and like-minded organizations in the country to make this a success. It’s one of the biggest projects that we have in Decathlon where we every month, go into the community to clean it and make it accessible for people to practice sports,” he said.
Joseph Adaklumegah also assured the GFA of Decathlon’s full support.
“As an official partner, we will also be contacted anytime GFA deems fit for assistance for other equipment under the partnership. Because we are the official retail shop, we will be more than glad to assist them to get what they need. I want to encourage a lot of us as many as possible to get back into sports. To practice, to exercise, put in 30 minutes of daily exercise in your daily routine to help you to boost your immune system especially in these times that we find ourselves. We need to live longer and we can do this by practicing a lot of sports.”
