Ghana Premier League champions Accra Hearts of Oak have handed an apology to their fans after a humiliating defeat to Wydad Athletic Club in Morocco in the second-leg of the CAF Champions League qualifiers.
Hearts of Oak was yesterday kicked out of the CAF Champions League after suffering a humiliating 6-1 defeat to the Moroccan champions at the Mohammed V Stadium.
Hearts of Oak had a slender 1-0 advantage prior to the game and their hopes of making it to the group stages of the CAF Champions League in well over 10 years were dashed when they conceded three goals in the opening 20 minutes.
The results over two legs have seen WAC progress to the Group Stages of the competition after completing a 6-2 aggregate victory over the Phobians.
In a statement released the club said,
“We apologize to our fans for not making the ultimate dream come true but we believe this is the time that the team needs you most to accomplish the task ahead”
The club also believes the defeat will help make amends in the final round of qualifiers for the group stages of CAF’s second-tier inter-club competition, the Confederation Cup.
We have a chance to make amends in the Confederations Cup and this important lesson we have picked up in Morocco will inspire us to rise above the current disappointment as we take inspiration from the motto of our club” Never Say die until the bones are rotten”
We are Hearts of Oak! We will live to fight another day to make the phobia family proud.
