President of the Ghana Bodybuilding and Fitness Association, Mr. Abdul Hay Yartey, has debunked the assertion that the body building sport breeds hooligans in society.
Speaking to Univers Sports after his re-election as president of the association, Mr. Yartey noted that body building is the backbone of all sporting disciplines
According to him, since his involvement in the sport, there has not been a single case of a professional bodybuilder being caught up in any act of bullying or assault in the society
“Bodybuilder is the backbone to all sports disciplines because you need to be physically fit before you go into a game. Bodybuilders train most government officials, corporate workers and other people because they all go to the gym to build certain part of their body.
The notion around bodybuilders who are considered to be rascals in our community is an a wrong notion because since I involved myself into this game there has not been a single day we’ve had cases of our guys being involved in such social vices”
He added that, it is time the government and other key stakeholders concentrate on investing in bodybuilding and make it a well-known sport in the country.
“I think this is the time for the Ministry of Youth and Sports, corporate bodies and other people to pay attention to these sports and flee from thinking that an investment into this game will breed hooligans”
Mr. Abdul Hay Yartey will steer the affairs of the association for another four years after attaining the position since 2004.
