For the first time in ten years, the University of Ghana is set to once again stage the biennial Ghana Universities Sports Association games come January 2020 which triggered its launch yesterday June 12, 2019 at the Great Hall of the University.
The event saw dignitaries like the President of the Ghana Universities Sports Association, Dr. Charles Domfeh, and the University of Ghana Director of Sports, Dr. Bella Bello Bitug.
Professor Samuel Kwame Offei, who was the chairperson for the local organizing committee graced the occasion.
The 2020 GUSA Games will encompass 13 sporting disciplines with nine public Universities participating.
The theme for the competition is “integrating sports into Academia for youth Empowerment and Development” and the name for the mascot dubbed “NILEYGON” meaning knowledge hill.
An Alumni of the University of Ghana and former University of Ghana Debate President, Samuel Asamoah, won GHC 1,000 for designing the logo for the competition.
John Edmundson Sam of the UG Communication School was equally GHC 1,000 for composing the theme song for the competition.
