Head Coach of the University of Ghana Sports Directorate, Mr. Henry Nii Sackey has assured the entire university community that the directorate will not cancel this year’s edition of the Vice-Chancellor Sports Awards Night.
According to him, the event will rather not be held on a grand stage.
Speaking exclusively to Univers Sports at a meeting held between the Sports Directorate and students of the sports fraternity, Mr. Sackey stated that the decision was made due to low of patronage of the event.
“If you put up so much for a party and you don’t get people attending the party to enjoy the meal, it’s wastage,” he said
He further lamented over the lackadaisical attitude of the students towards to the award ceremony.
“…if students will come early and dignitaries we invite will sit and the programme will go on well, we are for it. Over the years we have been telling students to come early and they won’t come, the Vice-Chancellor will be in and students are not here,” he said
He maintained that the awards ceremony would come on as usual deserving students will be duly rewarded for their achievements
“The award ceremony is not canceled, we will still be awarding students but not on a grand avenue that we spend on decorations among others”
Mr. Sackey further added that his outfit was “going to brainstorm and think about which other forms of avenue can we use to award students.”
The meeting between the Sports Directorate and students of the sports fraternity of the University of Ghana was held on Friday 31st August, 2018 at the directorate’s headquarters to interact and give details of the Sports Calendar for the semester.
