Beneficiaries of the Youth in Afforestation Module of the Youth Employment Agency have claimed that they sometimes use their own tools to work on farms.
According to them, the tools provided them by the Youth Employment Agency is inadequate.
Speaking on the Radio Univers’ Labor Front Show, the beneficiaries claimed that even though some tools were given to them by the Agency, they were not sufficient enough for use by all the employees hence, some of them resorted to using their own tools.
Their comment come a few days after picketing at the office of the Forestry Commission demanding their up to five month salary arrears.
The angry youth said they were fed up with the assurances given to them by the Chief Executive Officer of the Forestry Commission, Mr. Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie and wanted their monies paid to them in full before the Christmas break.
However, Corporate Affairs and Media Relations Officer of the Forestry Commission, Mrs. Joyce Ofori Kwafo explained that the processes involved in procuring more tools for the over 15,000 workers was tedious hence, the delay in getting all of the workers tools to work with.
She further stated that the office was yet to receive reports that some of the beneficiaries were selling the tools given them.
Again, Madam Ofori Kwafo revealed that a loan facility was secured to pay beneficiaries in their first four months of working due to the delay in the release of funds from the Finance Ministry.
